How the Festival is Paid For
Every year the Lammas Festival is paid for purely by fundraising in the community and the sale of Merry Meet Quarterly Magazine. Committee members and friends volunteer their time and skills, lending their own equipment and often digging deep into their own pockets to help out.
Many bands and dancers generously offer their performances for free, and we can't thank them enough.
However, rising costs mean that we struggle every year to pay for everything out of our small pot of funds.
In 2006 the government introduced new Licensing requirements (which we were mostly prepared for) and the local council chose to enforce certain elements in the immediate run-up to Lammas of that year, including insisting we hire a security guard for the beer tent for two days. Last minute expenses such as these are extremely costly and eat into our funds.
How Can You Help?
Whether you are an individual with a spare £5, a local business or national company who wants to support our community festival by offering its services for free or providing financial help, we would love to hear from you.
We will print names of sponsors (if they wish) on the website, and Businesses can also have their logo and a link to their website.
What Will Your Sponsorship Buy?
Your sponsorship can help pay for, or contribute towards:
- Publicity - printing and distribution costs for posters, flyers, leaflets. Or can you offer to print them for free?
- Advertising costs - newspapers and magazines. Help advertise for free by telling people about the festival; add details to events lists in the press and online; shout about it in your MySpace or other blog
- Signage - AA or RAC road signage indicating how to get to the festival. Also signs about facilites near to and on the festival ground.
- Festival Programmes - from this year onwards we want to produce a fuller, colour festival programme with details and times of performances; info about the bands, dancers, giants and ground perfomers; photos; a map and details about the stalls and the facilities. Can you help by printing our Programme? Or would you like to buy some advertising space?
- Banners - we need a few large banners that we can use every year. Your money could help us to buy them - or would your business pay for them (with a "Sponsored by ..." printed on the banner)?
- Performers' expenses - most play or dance for free. If we could contribute to expenses we may be able to help others come to the festival.
- Security - the local council requires us to have Security on the festival ground. Your sponsorship can help pay towards this, or can your company offer the use of free Security?
- Toilets - we'd love to be able to provide portaloos or portakabins for everyone on site, especially for those with disabilities (council-run facilities leave a lot to be desired!) Can you or your business help pay towards, or provide us with these?
- Carnival Prizes - we give prizes donated by local and national businesses to children and adults wearing the best costumes in the carnival parade. Can you provide a prize?
- Hall Hire - our Friday and Saturday night ticketed events take place at a hired location (this year it will be the Gold Room at the Winter Garden). Regardless of ticket sales, we still have to pay to hire the venue. Perhaps your business would like to sponsor the hire, or even the acts?
- Administration costs - stamps, paper, envelopes, printer cartridges, phone-bills etc; it all adds up!
